What the site collects
Server logs
Like every website, the web server records technical access logs (requested page, time, browser type, IP address) to keep the site running and secure. Logs are kept by the hosting provider for a limited time and are not used for anything else.
Analytics
The site measures which pages are read using a self-hosted Matomo installation running on this same domain. Nothing is sent to any third party. The measurement sets no cookies, stores nothing in the browser, and shortens every IP address before recording, so no profile of any visitor exists. It counts things like “the Königrufen rules were read” and “a puzzle answer was revealed”.
Newsletter
Subscribing to the newsletter stores the entered email address in this site’s own database, together with the time of the request and a shortened IP address. A confirmation email is sent first, and the address is only used after that confirmation (double opt-in). The confirmation link is valid for 48 hours. A sign-up that is not confirmed in that time is deleted.
The address is used for the newsletter and nothing else and is passed to no one. Every issue carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect at once. After that the address stays on a do-not-send list, with the time of confirmation and of unsubscribing, so that it is not written to again and the consent can be proven. Writing to the address above removes it completely.
Community accounts
Creating an account to submit puzzles or house rules stores the chosen display name and email address. They are used to manage the account and its submissions, and for nothing else.
Writing to the site by email stores that email for as long as handling the request takes.
What stays on your device
The score keepers and the puzzle progress marks save their state in your own browser (local storage). That data never leaves your device and is never seen by the site. Clearing the browser’s site data removes it.
What the site does not do
No advertising, no third-party trackers, no social-media embeds, no data sales. Fonts and all other assets are served from this domain, so reading this site contacts no other company.
Your rights
Applicable data-protection law gives you the right to ask what personal data is stored about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to its use. One email to hi@elsteinergames.com does it.
Changes
This policy changes when the site’s actual behaviour changes, and this page always describes the current state.
