- Still out: XVI, XVIII, XX, XXI, C♥, Q♥, K♦, J♣, Q♣, Q♠ (1 of them is the Declarer's discard).
- P2 has no Clubs or Spades. P3 has no Hearts or Clubs. P3 holds the K♦.
- Set aside for the trick with the K♦: 5 cards with 2 pips. The Declarer has nothing, plus 1 discard you cannot see.
Which card do you lead?
Answer
Q
. The Declarer must follow your Queen with a Diamond, and P1 and P2, out of Diamonds since tricks 6 and 8, must trump it. When the K
falls under their Taroks, the Defenders win the trick and the five set-aside cards with it, and the Declarer ends on 19 Card Points at most. Lead a Tarok and the Declarer can keep the K
for a trick it wins, and end on 31.
Rule: When the Declarer plays the rescued King, the set-aside talon cards go face-up onto that trick, and the player who wins the trick takes them. After every trick, note who is void in which suit, and which side captured which pips.
