Which card is sure to win the first trick?
Answer
The K
. The 4
lies face-up on your opponent’s pile, so they must follow Diamonds, and no Diamond beats a King. The K
loses to a Tarok if they hold no Spade, and no Spade shows on their piles. The XXI loses to the Skus, and the Q
to the K
, which you have not seen.
Rule: If you cannot follow the led suit from your hand but a card of that suit lies face-up on one of your piles, you must play it from there. When you lead, choose a card that can win the trick if your contract needs tricks or Card Points, or one that is likely to lose it if your contract wants as few of them as possible.
